Joint Admission Examination is the name of the Indian entrance exam. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and the seven Indian Institute of Technology (at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on Behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education Government of India.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India entrance examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of the candidate in various UG subjects in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and PG subjects in science.
GATE exam is conducted in online mode (Computer Based Test (CBT)) at various centers spread in different cities across India, as well as, in multiple cities outside India. The GATE exam centers comprise eight zonal centers under which various cities are listed where national level engineering postgraduate entrance exam is conducted. Moreover, candidates should be aware that GATE exam scores are valid for three years only from the date of announcement of the results.

Candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program or has already completed any government approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Commerce / Science / Arts is eligible for appearing in the GATE.
